The beginning of the school year has been a rocky one for the class of 2021. The pressure of college applications, taking entrance exams, and planning for the future are important to many seniors. Fortunately, we are here to keep you updated on the important events that are on the horizon as we enter the second quarter.

FAFSA 

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)  officially opened on October 1st. This program helps students receive federal or state financial aid. To apply, you will need your parents’ assistance and their 2019 tax return. It is imperative that seniors apply as soon as possible. Funds are granted on a first come, first served basis.

“The FAFSA website has a very helpful real time chat feature that you can use as you are completing the application. I also have a FAFSA Step by Step worksheet which is posted in the FLHS Counseling Canvas course under BRACE,” stated Ms. Wolfe, BRACE advisor.

Scholarship Opportunities 

If you are looking for scholarship opportunities, Ms. Wolfe creates a monthly scholarship bulletin. The bulletins are sent through email, Naviance and the FLHS Counseling Canvas.

As graduation approaches, seniors must prepare their attire for the graduation ceremony. Herff Jones is the place to shop for Senior apparel. Cap and gown, hoodies, and accessories are all on their website.
