In an effort to promote community in the Fort Lauderdale High School student body, The Navigator is highlighting the 2024-2025 school year class councils.
Election season is over and the Fort Lauderdale Class of 2027 has chosen its officers: Jack Olson (President), Jakayla Perez (Vice President), Francesco Corrales (Treasurer), Francesca Saint-Preux (Secretary), and Valentina Navarra (Historian).
Class President Olson has many plans for this upcoming school year and highlighted the challenges the team has faced, but all members remain optimistic about the year ahead.
“We’ve been hitting the ground running, planning out a wide variety of fun fundraisers for our class. We’ve all been working hard to plan fun events and maximize our funds for senior years,” Olson said. “Already being in our sophomore year of high school and beginning with -$35 is really disheartening; it’s time we turn this year around if we [want to] have a good senior year.”
Vice President Perez is determined to work closely with Olson when brainstorming and executing all the fundraisers.
“I thought someone had to step up, especially because we didn’t have an ‘official’ council to even create funds, which is crucial if we want to minimize spending for events in our senior year,”
This team has shown dedication to their class and has wasted no time in getting started. They have already started collaborating with corporations like Double Good Popcorn and Nothing Bundt Cakes.
“[The goal] is to get between at least $10-20k in funding for the class of 2027, have more fun, social events to create stronger bonds within the student body,” said Perez.
The class of 2027 advisor, Ms. Lenecy Nodarse hopes to help the officers accomplish their goals.
“My main role is just to support the students, so whatever their endeavors are, whatever they [want to] do. As sponsor, I just support them and their ideas and try to make them happen,” Nodarse continued. “ So far we have the popcorn fundraiser running, we have Wilton Creamery going, there’s a couple of other projects in the works, and once those are kind of in the process we will release those on Instagram.”
These officers will have many responsibilities to take on but are eager to pursue the challenge.
