In an effort to promote community in the Fort Lauderdale High School student body, The Navigator is highlighting the 2024-2025 school year class councils.
Jahziah Defoe (President), Lyne Thervil (Vice President), Lilly Gonzanlez (Treasurer), Samantha Burton (Historian), Esther Klavan (Secretary), and Aspen Menemenci (Representative) are proud to be the Junior Class officers!
With the help of sponsor Ms. Lisa Quinn, the group has already achieved a class field trip to Bowlero, fundraised $20,000, and produced/sold school-wide hoodies. President Jahziah Defoe shared her goals with the fundraising.
“As a group, we aim to raise as much money as we can so that the cost of our senior activities are as low as possible and more accessible.”
Even with those big accomplishments, that is just the beginning! The group has an ice-skating trip in the works, more merch, and monthly fundraisers soon to come.
Aspen Menemenci revealed upcoming plans and her role’s importance.
“This year, we are designing and selling school-wide Flying L pyjama pants and planning an ice-skating event […] As representative, it is my job to make sure everybody is informed about these!”
Not only are these students contributing directly to their high school experience, but these positions also help them explore their interests. “I’ve always been interested in student factions and wanted to personally involve myself in one,” Vice President Lyne Thervil stated.
Ms. Quinn opened up about her enthusiasm for the group.
“I feel privileged to work with such a proactive, funny, diverse group of young people. After teaching for 30 years, it may sound silly, but these kids give me lots of hope for the future!”
