10 tips for a successful first year

Get the inside scoop from Fort Lauderdale High School students: 10 must-know tips for every first year scholar.

1. Ask questions!

Don’t be shy; ask your teachers and friends for help.

2. Be curious!

Show that you are interested and listen to advice.

3. Get involved!

Participate in class and join clubs. This is a good way to make friends with the same passions!

4. Studies before sports!

Practice is great, but your academics are even more important! Even if you want to be a professional athlete, it’s so important to make sure you are doing well in school.

5. Stay focused!

Focus on people and activities that are beneficial for you.

6. Get out of your comfort zone!

High school is a wonderful experience; don’t waste it only doing things you are used to. Try new things!

7. Set goals!

Never forget that you can always do better! Having goals can improve your motivation and boost your confidence.

8. Study!

Learn that doing your homework and studying are two different tasks. Don’t assume they are the same!

9. Be organized!

Prepare your bag the night before and try to do your work in advance. Don’t get lost with all your classes, use a planner or an agenda to help you stay organized!

10. Don’t give up!

It’s ok to make mistakes. Keep your head up and stay positive.
