Broward County Honors Society (BCHS) is an integral part of Fort Lauderdale High School’s community. This year the organization plans to work on several projects including organizing beach clean-ups, hosting holiday drives, and helping with school beautification.
Membership has strict requirements; members must uphold strong principles of leadership, responsibility, and collaboration. Invitations are distributed during the second semester to all sophomores and juniors who meet the requirements.
Entirely student-run, with a group of officers to represent the club, BCHS maintains a system of organization. President, Jordyn Minnis (12), works hard to maintain the integrity of the club and be a role model for the members.
“BCHS promotes a strong sense of community allowing students to unite together to further the common cause of securing the general welfare of society,” explained Jordyn.
Marielle Witting, the BCHS advisor, admires all members and officers of the club for the commendable work they put into the club.
Mrs. Witting emphasized, “I love being part of the [BCHS] meetings, I get to see the effort that is made and I let the officers take charge of the club.”
There are many members of BCHS, some who are brand new and others that joined in the second semester of their sophomore year.
“I wanted the opportunity to join a community of hardworking students here at FLHS who will uplift me and join me in community service projects,” says Bianca Olweean (11).
Being a new member of BCHS, Bianca has found herself eager to help the community.
As a prestigious organization, BCHS is dedicated to making not just the school but the community surrounding them a better place. Throughout December, they are collecting toys for a Holiday Drive, having a beach clean-up, and selling t-shirts so make sure to stay alert.
