Hello and welcome back to This Week in Sports! We’re halfway through fall sports and things are heating up! There’s a lot to discuss, so enjoy this latest sports update provided by The Navigator! 

VARSITY FOOTBALL:

Last Friday, the Flying L boys varsity football team took on Blanche Ely High School in their first home game of the season at DRV PNK Stadium’s AutoNation Community Field. Unfortunately, the game resulted in a loss for the Flying L’s; the final score being 39-17.

Defense held down the Blanche Ely Tigers the whole game, as they were visibly struggling against the defense. The problem lay within the offensive line, as it was all the little things on offense that caused issues for the team.

Despite the immense pressure they were under, the offense was able to put up two touchdowns and a field goal against the Tigers. Receivers like Jalen Daniel (11) and Jah’uny Thomas (12) both had a touchdown each in the second half of the game, sparking energy back into the team towards the end of the game.

Jah’uny was bothered by certain offensive issues within the game, but knows that the team must develop more maturity within their mentality as a unit.

GIRLS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL:

The girls varsity volleyball team is on a roll as they recorded a 2-1 record last week! They faced off against Piper High School; Hollywood Hills High School; and Monarch High School. They shut out both Piper and Monarch 3-0, while losing to Hollywood Hills 3-1. Their regular season ends next week, as they make their final FHSAA playoff push; and lead their division, go Flying L’s!
