The trend of wearing pajama pants to school has been growing across Fort Lauderdale High School. This trend, which seems to defy traditional dress codes, has become a very common look.
A study done by Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, shows that the more comfortable clothing people wore on exam day, the higher their score.
Other regions around America seem to agree, Altoona High School in Pennsylvania reported a study from Vanguard Resources, “ ‘Productivity increases by 25% when employees perceive their environments to be more comfortable. This can be a direct parallel to students’ productivity increasing when they have control over their comfort.’ Pajama pants and other comfortable clothing can be a great benefit for students’ productivity at school and keep them engaged as they don’t have to worry about their comfort as much.”
Students express their main reasoning behind it being for comfort.
“When wearing pajama pants I feel the comfort of my own home so when I’m at school I get my work done,” said Brinkley Zimmer (12), who wears pajama pants two to three times a week.
“A lot of my classes are in 17 which is always super cold,” Vivianna Brown (10) continued. “They keep me warmer with fun patterns compared to just sweats.”
Other students disagree with the trend. Emilia Petrillo Danessa (11) has a negative view of wearing her pajamas to school.
“Coming to school is a responsibility which means you need to show some sort of professionalism, Pj pants are lazy,” she commented.
At the end of the day if pajama pants fall under the Fort Lauderdale dress code then why should it matter?
Macaria Linarez (12) says, “I wore them once and felt embarrassed, but honestly no one really cares.”
