The modern classic sci-fi action film Inception was directed by Christopher Nolan and produced by Legendary Pictures Syncopy and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was released in early July 2010 and is streamed free exclusively on HBO Max and Netflix.
Inception introduces the main character, Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio), as a thief with the extraordinary ability to enter a person’s dreams and take classified information from their subconscious. Though this skill has made him a great asset to espionage, it has cost him everything he has ever loved. He has the chance to plant an idea in an important person’s mind. If he succeeds, it will be the most flawless crime yet, but throughout the movie, he has to endure many hindrances because of enemies and emotions.
This film encompasses themes such as dreams and reality, warfare, time, and guilt. While the movie tries to keep the themes underway, the audience can still feel the heaviness of dealing with those topics.
Layla: My perspective on the movie is that it was confusing but still intriguing. At the beginning of the movie, the audience does not know they are in someone’s dream until Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) shows up in his vehicle with the rest of his team. I love action and sci-fi movies, so when watching this, I was very fascinated. One thing I didn’t enjoy was how long the movie was. The movie was two hours and twenty-eight minutes, which in my opinion, is long. The movie seemed to have many fillers until the climax, but the movie was still good. Even with the fillers, the movie was action-packed. In the movie, Cobb gets the chance to have his criminal history completely invalidated, IF he can implant an idea into the target’s subconscious. I would rate this movie a 10/10. Though the movie was good, some scenes would cut back to memories or other scenes throughout the movie. To say the least, when I thought one thing was going to happen, the movie said otherwise. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes action or sci-fi movies.
Ayanna: I immensely enjoyed Inception. I would give it a rating of 10/10. The plot of the film was very creative and unique. People breaking into the subconscious to remove or insert ideas was a fascinating concept to explore, and I enjoyed how they handled it. The intricate details of the film always seemed to have me at the edge of my seat. I also really liked the casting. Familiar actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, and Elliot Page starred in this movie. They did a great job bringing the film to life. This movie has beautifully executed the action, soundtrack, effects, and many other elements. I will definitely be rewatching it. Though I enjoyed Inception, I admit, it can be hard to follow, and it is not difficult to get confused if you’re not paying attention; thus, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who gets distracted quickly during lengthy films. Otherwise, I would recommend this to anyone who appreciates an exciting plot or good sci-fi film.
