On August 20, the Flying L’s faced the Flanagan High School Falcons in this season’s football opener, routing them 27-0.
Head Coach Richard Dunbar III was pleased with his team’s performance.
“Feels pretty good,” Coach Dunbar said. “I think the guys played well, definitely played a lot better than people were expecting them to. Obviously, we still have some work to do, they have a long way to go. But you know, it was definitely a win, and it’s something to build on.”
According to Dunbar, wide receiver Oscar Koenig (11) gave his best effort, ensuring the win.
“A lot of those guys had a really decent performance. But the biggest takeaway of the night was on the last play of the game. We threw an interception, and the opposition had a chance to return it for a 103 yard touchdown. Oscar Koenig made the saving tackle on the opposition at the 5-yard line. Oscar did not give up, and he played through until the end.”
Dunbar also gave his outlook on the season ahead.
“We want to continue from where we left off last season, obviously have more games like we did on Friday, continue to build on what we have right now and get ready for district play.”
The Flying L’s play their next game against the Monarch High School Knights at home on September 3 after last week’s game was forfeited by Hallandale.
